Why Does Leo Let the Kids Leave With Valeria?

If you watched Netflix’s No One Saw Us Leave, then you must be filled with mixed emotions and dozens of questions, especially about Leo Saltzman.

After trying every possible way to keep his children away from their mother, why does Leo let the kids leave with Valeria?

Thighs are about to get interesting. Let’s have a look at what happens in the series.

The Story of Leo and Valeria

At the start of the show, Leo Saltzman takes his children, Tamara and Isaac, on a trip to Europe without telling his wife, Valeria. His goal? To punish her for cheating on him with Carlos, who happens to be Leo’s brother-in-law.

This decision sparks a massive family feud. Valeria and her powerful Goldberg family do everything they can to find Leo and the kids. On the other hand, Leo’s family, the Saltzmans, helps him hide. What starts as revenge soon turns into a long, emotional chase across countries.

A Loveless Marriage Built on Family Power

To really understand Leo’s actions, you need to know that his marriage to Valeria was never about love. Their union was arranged to strengthen ties between two wealthy Mexican-Jewish families, the Goldbergs and the Saltzmans, in the 1960s.

Leo wanted to be an architect, but his father, Samuel Saltzman, had other plans. Samuel always controlled Leo’s life, criticizing his choices and treating him like a disappointment. So when the affair was exposed, Samuel pushed Leo to take the kids away, convincing him it was the “right” thing to do.

Why Leo Changes His Mind?

At first, Leo follows his father’s orders blindly. While on the run from one place to another, Leo takes a moment to rethink his decision to keep his kids away from their mother.

He finally realizes that his father’s control has ruined his family relationships and his entire life. What he’s been doing for so long is actually wrong.

This turns out to be a wake-up call for Leo, and he no longer wants to fall prey to his father’s plans.

When Valeria finally finds Leo, following a tip that leads her there, Leo no longer struggles. He realized that he had been doing wrong for years, running from place to place with his children.

So, instead of trying to fight it, Leolet goes off on his stubbornness. He returns Tamara and Isaac to Valeria, understanding that the children should be with their mother.

What Happens To Leo In The End?

The series doesn’t reveal much about what happens to Leo in the aftermath, but the closing credits offer us what’s left of closure. Tamara and Isaac end up living with Valeria, while Leo loses custody.

We learn he hasn’t seen them in 20 years. It’s heartbreaking, but it feels right. Leo’s decision to let the kids go wasn’t to “win” it was to just do the right thing, even if it meant losing everything.

Final Thoughts

Leo’s story in No One Saw Us Leave is sad but meaningful. In the beginning, Leo is shown as a person ruled by pride, wanting to meet his father’s expectations. But in the end, we saw how he transformed into a person owning his shortcomings, and let his kids go.

Even though it’s too late, he finally attains peace and redemption. The series ends with a beautiful realization that sometimes love requires you to let go of them.
