Will There Be Task Season 2?

HBO Max’s crime drama Task just wrapped up its first season on October 19, and fans are already asking the big question, Will there be a season 2?

Let’s have a look at what happened in Task Season 1, and is there any confirmation regarding renewing Task for a potential second season? Let’s break it down.

Task Season 1 Recap

Created by Brad Ingelsby (the mind behind Mare of Easttown), Task takes place in the suburbs of Philadelphia. The story revolves around an FBI Agent named Tom Brandis, played by Mark Ruffalo, as he leads a task force investigating a series of brutal robberies.

And that twist! Robbie (played by Tom Pelphrey), shown as a normal family man, was the one behind all the crimes.

As Robbie’s heists start targeting stash houses owned by a biker gang called the Dark Hearts, things spiral into chaos, leading to a violent turf war and a city on edge.

Task ending left everyone at the edge of their seats, wondering what’s going to happen next.

Will There Be Task Season 2?

As of now, there’s no news regarding the renewal of the Task for another season. But let’s not lose hope yet!

Creator Brad Ingelsby told Esquire in October 2025 that he would love to have a chance to do another season. So while there’s no official green light, the desire to continue the story is definitely there.

Ingelsby has made it clear he loves writing about his hometown area around Philadelphia, something that also inspired Mare of Easttown.

“If people keep responding to Task, I’d love to tell more stories about this place,” he shared. “I do feel like I have more stories to tell.”

Interestingly, he even teased the idea of a possible crossover between Task and Mare of Easttown. Imagine Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet) bumping into Agent Tom Brandis at a local Wawa! While there’s no concrete plan for that yet, Ingelsby admitted the two shows “exist in the same world.”

Who Could Return for Season 2?

Since the first season ended with a few major character deaths, it’s unlikely that Tom Pelphrey, Alison Oliver, or Raúl Castillo would return, unless in flashbacks.

If Task does get renewed, we can probably expect Mark Ruffalo to return as Agent Tom. However, with his busy filming schedule (including upcoming projects like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Crime 101), production timing might take some juggling.
